How it works- the same but also quite unique!
We will be creating variations of the same painting (or craft project), and I’ll be leading you through the steps and by your side to support you. There will be an example to follow, and I’ll be on my own easel repainting it… but you’re always welcome to go “off script”. In fact, it’s encouraged! I’ll be available to guide you as you build skill (disguised as tips and tricks). Workshops typically run 2.5 hours.
We provide all the materials you’ll need to create a ready-to-hang work of art at the end of the workshop that you will be proud of. Smocks, artist’s quality brushes, artist quality acrylic paint and your stretched canvas await you in the comfortable Annex (located behind the main studio, in a stand-alone building).
What’s that!?! You say you can’t draw? Not an artistic bone in your body? No worries! I can help you, and we’ll have a blast doing it. If you know your shapes, and you are willing to make mistakes and try, try again, then we can totally do this!
My approach takes the stress out of creativity. Why not encourage a friend (or the whole squad) to register along with you, and bring a bottle of wine or your favorite beverage to share?
What makes this experience different from other paint night events?
Our lifelong commitment to visual arts education is proof of our passion. Our goal is to share that with you, and to enrich your lives. With a much smaller class size than your average public paint event, you will receive the quality, personal instruction and attention that will help you blossom into the artist you want to be! We know that you will get questions answered, and the personalized guidance you deserve, to set you up for success.
Hi, I’m Katrina! I’m an artist, experienced instructor, mom of four, big nerd and amateur comedian. I’ve been painting and making mixed media work since forever. In 2000 I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from California College of the Arts. I completed an MA in The Humanities at New College of CA before moving back to my hometown of Novato and starting a family. Since 2010 I’ve had the pleasure of teaching young artists in Studio4Art after school and summer classes whenever I can.
I adore getting together with curious, open-minded people and letting the creative juices flow! This year I began hosting private paint parties and art events locally for adults. In addition to private groups, I lead paint workshops for Novato Mothers Club’s “moms’ night out” and a very special Mother’s Day paint party for residents of Oma Village (a permanent housing location for the homeless advocacy nonprofit agency Homeward Bound). When I’m not taking my kids to karate or gymnastics, I’m homeschooling my eleven year old. To recharge my battery and keep my creative spirit (and training) sharp I paint at home (either solo or with the family).
I also work in Communications for Nonprofit here in Marin, having contributed my outreach and design talents over recent years to Novato Human Needs Center, BeeCause Community Closet, and Novato Mothers Club. In July 2018 I joined St.Vincent de Paul Society of Marin as their E-Communications Coordinator to marry their messaging with visuals.
I’ve worn many hats, but I keep coming back to teaching art; I love introducing new students to a technique, and watching how each artist builds confidence and refines their eye. It’s incredibly fascinating and rewarding.
